For all of you RA Domination Mesmers
Tired of using Backfire on that monk when you know it's gonna be removed?
Why not use Empathy instead?
I'm completely serious here, monks will use their inspired hex on something that will have 0 effect on them for the entire match rather than wait for something more potent to hit. Just open with empathy, they inspired hex it off, then use backfire and you now have 1 very unhappy monk.
Now back to your regularly scheduled mesmer posting.

Slap on backfire then fast cast ur rend enchantment etc.
Works on majority of the monk. (experienced one would cast and CoP thru backfire anyway)

Honestly backfire is probably a great pve skill, it is not a good skill at all to cast on boon prots. IF you cast it then cover it, I just cast rof and cop off the divine boon and rof. Both cover hex and backfire are gone. I get healed for a bunch and also remove 2 conditions if I have any. There are way better skills for mesmers to screw up monks than backfire.

Backfire is a waste of energy. It might frighten those who just went into RA, but it won't do crap on an half-ass RA player.
Or maybe...

Vermillion, CoP is a skill so it won't trigger backfire.
Backfire > Diversion > Drain Enchant = boon less boon prot.
Although there are much easier hexes to do this with. Wither > Diversion > drain en
Non-elites..... hmmm i guess it has to be backfire. Drain enchant is nice for your energy management anyway.

Try using decent skill?
Backfire... 3s cast, 15 energy, 10s duration, and very, very conditional damage that's easy to avoid. Not worth it.

The most obvious answer here IMO is shame because backfire is a very well known skill and stealing nrg+interrupting a monk can be alot more disruptive than health loss. Cast it, wait two seconds, Diversion. Then, if the monk hasn't cast COP yet, drain their enchants so that they can't. This way, no matter what happens, things are win-win for you since if they cast COP immediately, it will get diversioned, and if they don't cast it soon afterward it no longer becomes an option because you will have drain the enchantment necessary for them to drop shame. They may COP, but with only one enchantment (watch to make sure they only have divine boon and MoR up) they will only remove one hex, diversion, which won't leave without doing its job anyway. If they do cast an enchantment (or any ally targeting skill) immediately, shame will hit it and steal nrg from them as well as interrupt it. Play a glyph mes and glyph shame so you can do this twice in a row; coodinate it with an andrenaline spike for best results.

When I go MoR spamming, I bring BF, only to slap on a second target. Diversion and Shame for the Monk, then switch to the second target and slap a BF on them. Guilt, Drain Enchant and E-Tap are your main energy management skills, and with MoR the latter two recharge in 12.5 seconds.

My monk always has Inspired Hex ready in RA.
I love backfiring backfires back at the mesmers when I monk in RA. It's almost as fun as Siphoning off the necros...
Most of the monks in RA are experienced players doing faction farming or going for gladiator's titles anyways, so a good number of us know to watch what the mesmers and necros are using and what order. Most people have a set pattern of how they use their builds - i.e. the order of their spellcasting - which the decent monk can readily anticipate.

Wow, if I knew I could get a monk to waste 3s and 15 energy to cast back my backfire I would bring it more often

DIVERSION!
Backfire is horribly inefficient in any sort of organized (hell, even unorganized) PvP.
Topic close please.
